- Threshold Reiki Experience - This page is one of a series where I share a personal experience or anecdote related to my Reiki work. The pages are also intended to give you some "food for thought" and add to your overall Reiki knowledge base. While the experience has been my own, I feel that you should decide for yourself how much (if any) of the content has any usefulness to your own Reiki work. One day on one of my student email lists I was talking about my guides and their sense of humor. Since the late 1990's Usui has been hanging around me, even showing up in ways I couldn't deny it (I wrote 2 "Experiences" on these events). I have met or known quite a few Reiki people who get visions or are clairvoyant, and who will see him at times around them as well. He must be a busy guy. The other week when I was allowing my guides a full day each of continuous blending and letting them walk around in me, Usui got his turn as well. (He tells me to call him "Mikao." I guess he left all formality in his former life.) In any case, I think this led to the following experience: Recently Nadya purchased a new large sectional couch and the old one went the way of one of our daughters' apartments. The new one is a bit different as it is curved at the corner rather than right angled. And with the new couch Nadya has been out looking for new cushions to go with it, as well as some new canvas paintings to hang above it. The Home Sense stores in our area often have relatively inexpensive reproduced paintings and she found one nice beach tall grass scene that we hung over the couch (hey, it IS summer here. ) . Then on Tuesday of this week she brought home another - one with a beach again, but at dawn, with a sailboat just off shore. I took down the Usui Gainen I had hanging there and put that picture in it's place. After matching the new painting with the previous beach one, and with our other fall forest scene painting in the living room, Nadya realised it didn't quite fit, it wasn't quite as vibrant as the others, it is more soft and subtle. So she chose to hang it above our bed instead. On Thursday I taught Reiki 1 to three local ladies. All were moms and one was even a level 2 black belt in a Japanese style of karate. After the attunement I brought out my kakejiku of the Usui Gainen and the little one of Usui's portrait. As I was explaining the Gainen to the ladies, I finally got to the 3 hankos on the side. The 3rd one is that of the kanji for "bird" - meaning the year of the bird - 1921 - when the original scroll was written. The first 2 are the kanji for Usui's spiritual name which translate to something like "Dawn" and "Sail." As I explained that, it then "dawned" on me, what was now hanging in our bedroom above the bed. A Dawn Sail. This morning I remembered that class incident and explained it to Nadya. I told her that even she hadn't escaped Mikao's humor.
