Threshold Reiki Experience -
This page
is one of a series where I share a personal experience or anecdote related
to my Reiki work. The pages are also intended to give you some "food
for thought" and add to your overall Reiki knowledge base.
While
the experience has been my own, I feel that you should decide for yourself
how much (if any) of the content has any usefulness to your own Reiki work.
Some
years back (2000, I think) I went to the annual August Japanese
festival at Openheimer Park in Vancouver, BC, which is in the old Japanese area
downtown. I walked around the grounds and exhibits and then went
into the basement of the old Buddhist church there. I found one
of Takata's student, Harue Kanemitsu, giving free healings to people
sitting in chairs. She asked if I would help so I did. The
next year after my trip to Japan, I went there on the first day, bringing some English and
Japanese Reiki books and flyers and a sign for free healings.
That year Harue wasn't there so I asked if I could set up a booth and
give free healings. They gave me a table and some chairs.
Shortly after the fair opened I suddenly found myself surrounded by
local Japanese people, most in their 70s and 80s (and some were even older.) I felt like I was back in Kyoto.
Except these people all spoke English as well as Japanese.
Just after I set up my space, one older man
approached me and began asking me a lot of questions. To help answer
these I asked if he would like to try
out the energy. He agreed and while a friend of his looked on I
performed a
simple reiju or empowerment I teach on his hands. He was really
amazed and so I had him
put his hand on his heart. Then I had him put his hand on his
friend's shoulder. Both their eyes lit up. So I offered to
attune the friend and let him test it on the first man. Then they
both began do this to each other.
Then people began to show up and sit in a chair for a free 10 minute
sample. I had the 4 chairs set up with 2 side by side and facing the
other 2 on the other side of my space. I would work with 2 people at a time. I went behind
the chairs and just put one hand on each person's shoulder. Then
I might shift my hands to their backs, or above their heads. Next I would
come around in front of them and do a bit of Byosen Reikan Ho or Reiji Ho
(2 different types of orignal Reiki scanning.) I would then
hold my hands away from the body, doing their chest, or their knees, or
whatever I felt drawn to, often a different place for each
person. So of course my hands were often in 2 different places on
the 2 people. All the while I was explaining what Reiki was,
where it
came from, and explaining to the people what I was doing.
By this time I was beginning to draw a smalll crowd.
Then based on my earlier experience with the two men, I asked each
person if they would like to have this ability. Everyone said
yes. So I had them open up their hands, palms face up and side by
side. I would then give my simple reiju or empowerment to both persons at the same time, and intend to allow either Gendai Reiki or Ohta
Reiki to flow from either hand over theirs. Sometimes it was even Gendai
in one had and Ohta in the other. After a minute I could feel the
energies peak and so I had each person put their hands on their heart
to see what they noticed. Then I had them one at a time put their
hand on the shoulder of the person beside them. That really
worked well. Then I gave them simple instructions for the use of
Reiki, and also I pointed them to my table with the handouts and sample
hand positions. Then I moved to the other 2 chairs.
I did this for two days, getting some help for a time from one of my
master students who came by. But she was a bit uncertain about giving the
reiju so I would do them for her. People who had been in the
chairs would then be standing around watching, trying out Reiki on
their friends. Some on the second day came by and offered comments
on how they felt much better that day (these were usually people running other
booths.) Near the end of Day 1 I even attuned 2 Shiatsu students who
had been working at a nearby booth. I told them how to let Reiki
flow as they gave each Shiatsu session. At the end of Day 2 I walked over to
talk to them. They said it was the first time they still felt so
energized after a full day of giving Shiatsu.
I guess I gave about 189 - 190 treatments and attunements during those 2 days.
Later that year I held the URRI 2002 conference
in Toronto, during which the main presenter and teacher was Mr. Hiroshi
Doi sensei from Japan. (Hyakuten Inamoto and Dave King were also
main presenters and teachers.) Doi sensei was also a member of
the original URR Gakkai
branch in Tokyo a(as well as Kobe.)
On their return to Japan, I had Doi sensei and Mr. Inamoto stay over
for a few days once again in Vancouver (as they did on their arrival to
Canada). I also arranged for a local Reiki share and meeting at
the same Japanese Buddhist Church, and made it open to anyone wishing
to attend. This gave a lot of additional people a chance to meet
with the 2 teachers and to also receive reiju from them during Hatsurei Ho.
Some of the Japanese participants had come from across the border in
the Bellingham, WA area. They were absolute thrilled to meet Doi
sensei.
As part of the afternoon events we also had Reiki healing sessions,
usually with 4 or 5 Reiki people to a table, each taking a turn
receiving and giving Reiki. Once again I felt the Spirit of Reiki
in that old Japanese neighbourhood.
